You have undoubtedly seen vacuum food savers and how they can make your food last months longer than trying to store it in zip style bags, but how do these gadgets actually work?
The basic premise behind a vacuum food sealer is to remove the air from the bag and seal it shut for later use. How it accomplishes this is easy. First, you put the food you want to store inside the special bag. Then put the open end of the bag into the machine and press start. The machine then vacuums out the air and heat seals it.
The bags can then be stored in the refrigerator, freezer or left in the cabinet, depending on the type of food of course. One of the nice aspects of these bags is that you can microwave or even boil them with the food inside.
